Eliminate Closet Chaos in 3 Simple Steps

I’m going to cut the bull and give you EXACTLY what you’re looking for.  You want to know what to wear and how to wear it.

I’m going to cut the bull and give you EXACTLY what you’re looking for.

You want to know what to wear and how to wear it.

There are more than enough listicles out there telling you what you shouldn’t and shouldn’t have in your closet.

The one thing none of those other blogs talk about though is personal style. You can have all the “things” you think you should have and still not feel good in your clothes. Why? Because you aren’t wearing what’s right for you!

What do you REALLY need in your closet?

You need clothes that are functional for your lifestyle, not a bunch of pieces you’ve been influenced to buy. You know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve fallen prey to the online influence myself! It’s so hard not to when you hear “OMG!” “This changed my life.” “How cute is this?!” However, realistically ask yourself, how many things have I been influenced to buy that end up collecting dust? Plenty I’m sure. Let’s break the cycle together and talk about how you can start shopping smart so you’ll actually SAVE money in your closet.

Stop Wasting Money

So many of us hold onto clothing that no longer serves us because we just can’t let go. I know for me, I’ve had a hard time getting rid of clothes I only wore a handful of times because I felt like I was just throwing money away. Really though, that money is already gone.

When you shop with intention, you avoid this feeling.

Make A Plan For Your Next Shopping Trip

There’s no better way to plan for success than with a plan. I like to work in 3’s because, well, I just think that makes things easy. Here are 3 things to keep in mind during your next shopping trip.

1. Clear out your closet space

Time for a refresh! What should you get rid of? This is the hardest part so ask yourself the following questions, if the answer is no – let it go.

-Does this fit my current body?

-Will I actually fix this item? – Hem it, fix the zipper, replace the button, remove the stain, etc.

-Is this functional for my current lifestyle?

-Does this make me happy when I wear it?

Clearing space in your closet wil also clear your mind.

2. Take inventory of what’s missing

Have you ever tried grocery shopping without a list? You’re bound to buy extra things you don’t need and forget at least 1 or 2 things you do. How many times have you gotten home only to realize you forgot the thing you went out to get in the first place? This is why lists are important.

We’ve curated a list of a few items we consider wardrobe essentials below.

3. Ask – Can I create 3 outfits from this 1 item?

To get the best bang for your buck you want to actually wear your clothes as much as possible – this will bring down your cost per wear.

If you can create at least 3 outfits with this 1 new item using pieces you already have in your closet we consider it a ‘good’ buy. If you’re not sure where to get started, try using our 3 Step Style Formula.

10 Wardrobe Building Blocks You Need to Add To Your Closet

1. Moto Jacket

Moto jackets are HOT right now but for ladies with an edgier sense of style, these are always on trend. These sharp jackets can be dressed up or down. Mix different style aesthetics by pairing a rocker jacket with a feminine dress.

2. Straight Leg Jeans

There are a few denim styles that come to mind when we talk about the classics – they are skinny, straight and bootcut/flare. If you’re ever left unsure about what to wear, stick with one of these. They can all be worn with an array of tops to best suit your personal style.

3. Basic T-Shirt

A simple t-shirt is the perfect layering piece. It’s a classic that offers so much versatility to any stylish lady’s wardrobe. With its sleek silhouette it can be paired with any jacket, cardigan or wrap.

4. Denim Jacket

The classic denim jacket is a wardrobe staple for all women of all ages. It is size inclusive without being style exclusive. If you want to change things up try some of the many varieties available from different silhouette shapes to wash and color options.

5. Luxurious Legging

Leggings are an item where you do NOT want to trade quality for quantity. If you find the right pair you can appear more slim, trim and youthful! Look for leggings made from a high quality fabric so you’ll know they won’t be see-through and will last you many seasons.

6. Elevated Tank

An ITY knit tank is the most amazing fabric! It is wrinkle resistant, lightweight and extremely breathable. These pieces are ideal for travel. I like to say ITY stands for “I take you on vacation”

7. Classic Cardigan

A simple cardigan is something every woman’s closet needs. It’s the perfect catch all layering item. Wear it to work, wear it to church, or wear it to the farmers market. A neutral color will assure you can wear a cardi with any outfit.

8. Ponte Knit Pants

Denim has been the go-to bottom for any outfit for decades – that doesn’t mean jeans are the only option. Don’t be afraid to experiment with other fabrics. You may be surprised how much you like other styles – especially when they are made with ultra comfortable fabrics like scuba and ponte knit.

9. Sleek Sweater

When choosing your sweater, go for one in a solid color with a simple design. When you choose a very contemporary style, your look can quickly become dated, however, opting for a more ageless piece will allow you to wear the item for several seasons.

10. Comfortable Shoes

A versatile shoe that offers both stylish support and chic comfort is key to loving your look. You won’t be able to enjoy your life if you’re struggling to walk because your feet are in pain. We love our booties which have a moderate heel and provide a half inch of memory foam on the insole so you’ll feel like you’re walking on clouds all day.
