4 Steps to Buying the Perfect Coat You’ll Love
Mary Michele Nidiffer, Founder + Master Style Coach, StyleFinder
‘Tis the season for wearing a coat and I Iook forward to cold weather each year just for this reason. I love coats. But buying the perfect coat that’s right for is just as important as having a coat at all.
When buying a coat you want to consider several factors:
1/ Buying a Perfect Coat for the Right Occasion
Where will I wear this coat? If you need a dressy coat for special occasions that will be much different from your go-to coat to wear with jeans and casual clothes. Knowing where you’ll wear your coat makes it much easier to get the right one. Most coats fit into these categories:
· A casual day coat
· A dressy coat
· A coat for business
· A raincoat
· An all-weather coat
· A lightweight versatile coat
· A heavy winter coat
2/ Buying a Coat for Your Personal Style
What’s right for my style, at my body type, my coloring? Your coat can make or break your look, so know your style. If your Style ID(™) is Dramatic you’re going to want to buy a very different coat than if your Style ID(™) is Classic. Know your style and buy a coat accordingly.
3/ Buying a Perfect Coat with the Right Fit
You want to buy a coat that fits your body, and flatters you without making you look like the Michelin Man. Be sure your coat is sleek where you aren’t, and isn’t a heavy, bulky fabric that adds on pounds. Also, be sure you can lift your arms, and that you can layer underneath without it being too tight.
4/ Buying a Coat in the Right Color
Black isn’t always the best choice. When buying the perfect coat that’s right for you, think about your personal coloring and choose a hue that mimics your hair, your eyes or brightens your skintone. A print or patterned coat can bring an updated, modern look to your wardrobe.
